Community thrives on the active engagement and informed participation of its members. That’s why we’re excited to introduce you to an organization making an impact by promoting democratic engagement across our country: The Samara Centre for Democracy. As a supporter of the Samara Centre’s upcoming In Defence of Democracy event in Toronto on November 14, 2024, we want to share a bit more about what the Samara Centre does and why we’re proud to support its mission.
About The Samara Centre for Democracy
The Samara Centre for Democracy is a non-partisan, charitable organization dedicated to strengthening Canada’s democratic culture. Founded out of a deep concern for the vulnerabilities and challenges facing modern democracies, the Samara Centre works to close the gap between citizens and their political leadership, fostering a political culture that’s both responsive and effective.
Its mission is to improve political participation, understanding, and debate across the country. To accomplish this it conducts valuable research, engages in educational outreach, and offers insightful analysis geared towards creating positive change in our democratic systems. Whether it’s through its informative reports or community workshops that empower citizens, the Samara Centre’s work is intended to underpin the democratic values of Canadians.
As part of this, the Samara Centre is also dedicated to helping to educate students about the power of democracy. It has developed teaching resources to aid educators across different spaces and to empower students so they can evaluate and participate in strengthening Canadian democracy.
