Conversations with the Business Next Door: Nextdoor & Square talk local business with industry experts and community leaders

Local businesses are at the heart of our communities. To celebrate Small Business Month and help local businesses navigate the unique challenges they currently face, we’ve teamed up with fellow small business advocate Square to help local businesses learn from each other through a four-part webinar series featuring conversations with business owners and industry experts from across the country.

Conversation 1: The Power of Local – Friday, October 16, 2020

The series will kick off this Friday with a conversation about the Power of Local. Hosted by Nextdoor CEO Sarah Friar, in this 45-minute session you’ll hear from local businesses and community leaders on how they have harnessed power of the neighbourhood to support and grow their businesses.

Panelists include Jenn Wanless-Craig, owner of Artech Studios, a glass blowing business in Tory Hill, Ont., Andria Barrett, nutritionist and president of the Canadian Black Chamber of Commerce, and John Kiru, president of the Toronto Association of Business Improvement Areas (TABIA).

Conversation 2: Small Businesses with Mighty Hearts – Tuesday, October 20, 2020

For the second event, host Joella Almeida, head of partnerships at the Canadian Women’s Chamber of Commerce, will have a discussion with fellow community leaders about the widespread impact COVID-19 is having amongst underrepresented founders, entrepreneurs and business owners across Canada.

Conversation 3: Transforming Your Business – Thursday, October 22, 2020

The third conversation in this series will deep dive into the tools and resources needed to transform your business. Square Business Expert Karisa Marra will virtually sit down with Bobbie Racette, founder & CEO of The Virtual Gurus and askBetty Indigenous Entrepreneur of the Year 2019, as well as Darryl Julott, managing lead at Digital Mainstreet. They’ll discuss how local businesses are pivoting their approach and transforming their businesses in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
